Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive chronic degenerative disease without any disease-modifying treatment. It is caused by loss of dopamine neurons and disruptions of neural circuits in substantia in the mid-brain region. The common early symptoms are tremor, rigidity, slow movements and difficulty in walking. More than a third of individuals with the disease suffer from anxiety and depression. The primary motor symptoms are collectively referred to as parkinsonism. The cause of PD is remains unknown. Environmental factors, such as certain pesticides and head trauma have been incriminated in its pathogenesis.
