Should You Regularly Feed Peanuts to Your Infants?
Feed Majid Ali,
Reversal of Official Position on Peanut Food Allergy
In the health field, during the last five years the powers-to-be in the United States have been working hard on reversing themselves. Here comes another great reversal from them. Now they want all infants to be fed peanut powder or extract regularly. Add to the growing list of reversals of positions taken by these powers have taken about the benefits of annual physicals, nutrition, healthy fats, cholesterol, benefits of coronary stents for heart attack prevention, screening mammograms, and many more.
In farming communities where I grew up, food allergy was extremely uncommon. Even in industrialized food-growing Unites States, the incidence of asthma, eczema, and food allergy is much lower than in highly chemicalized regions of the country.
Not unexpectedly, these powers are blissfully ignorant about all issues of gut fermentation, gut microbiota and microbiome, effects of sugar and antibiotics abuse in mothers of the infants, molds that grows on foods, gut fermentation, increased gut permeability (leaky gut state), issues of gut fermentation, gut microbiota and microbiome, of mothers and babies, effects of toxic plastics in formula bottles, and chemical exposures at home and outdoors.
Peanut Allergy Among Children In Israel and Brittain
In a 2008 report, British children were 10 times as likely to have peanut allergies as Israeli children, a difference not related to genetic background, socioeconomic status, or tendency to develop other food allergies. A noteworthy difference was that that starting in infancy, Israeli children ate peanuts-containing foods, often in the form of Bamba corn snack.
I think this issue requires careful consideration of the food and mold allergy, and gut ecology issues of both the mother (especially if nursing) and the child.
Here are the results of another 2015 report. “By the time they turned 5, only 1.9 percent of 530 allergy-prone children who had been fed peanuts had developed an allergy, compared with 13.7 percent of the children who were denied peanuts. Among another group of 98 babies who were more sensitive to peanuts at the start of the study, 10 percent of those who were given peanuts developed an allergy, compared with 35 percent of those denied peanuts.” The New York Times January 6, 2017.
“Could the new guidelines mark the end of the peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich bans so common in school lunchrooms? “If we can put this into practice over a period of several years, I would be surprised if we would not see a dramatic decrease in the incidence of peanut allergies,” Dr. Fauci said. I know this will not happen until othr gut-related issues mentioned above are addressed.
