Is Less Oxygen Ever Good for Life?

Majid Ali, M.D.

A reader asked me the question in the title of this article. It is a revealing question.

The Answer

Yes, after sudden blood loss, such as in an accident or from a large bleeding ulcer, rapid loss of much blood and oxygen threatens life. The  bone marrow responds by releasing young blood cells to replace the cell lost and restore the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood.
