Most Important danger of Heartburn Drugs Is Neglect of the Real Issue.
I explain my answer further with videos linked below.
I regularly see patients with heartburn (GERD-gastritis complex) who have been on herburn drugs for months and years. I rarely have to prescribe heartburn drugs for more that a week or so. This is so because with effective nondrug remedies, I do not need to rely on drugs for years.
Two Types of Heartburn Drugs
The two classes of heartburn drugs are: (1) proton pump inhibitors (PPI); and (2) H2 Blockers (histamine-2 receptor blocker drugs. PPI drugs (Nexium, Prilosec, and Prevacid) are more heavily advertised and so are considered more popular. The examples of PPI drugs are Pepcid and Zantac.
What Is the Most Important danger of Heartburn Drugs?
I consider neglect of real issues, which is overgrowth of fermenting microbes in the stomach and esophagus, to be the real danger . Other toxic effects are kidney disease, bone fractures, weakened immunity and more infections, and nutritional deficits.
Kidney damage Is More Common With PPI Drugs
