Optimism of Promise of Technology of the West and Insights of the East, and Now ….
I have studied biology for sixty years. I began the study of medicine 58 years ago. During the next 20 years, my studies were limited to knowledge derived from medical technology of the West. I earned certification in surgery in London, England, and in anatomic and clinical pathology in the United States. In 1974, I received appointments as chief pathologist and laboratory director at Holy Name Medical Center in New Jersey and the faculty of Columbia University, New York. I also authored or co-authored several editions of books for pathology certification. In the next ten years, I published my research findings in American and international journals, including the Journal of Medical Association (JAMA), Lancet, Israel Journal of Sciences, and numerous other journals. In 2009, I published Darwin and Dysox Triology, the 10th, 11th, and 12th volume of my textbook devoted to molecular biology of oxygen (these and 11 other volume of my textbook entitled The Principles and Practice of Integrative Medicine are available at http://www.aliacademy.org.
In 2015, with deep gratitude and humility, I saw the publications of my articles on molecular biology of oxygen and the science and philosophy of holism in the journal Nature, the most prestigious science journal in the world.
Shift From Study of Disease to Study of Health
Sometimes in mid-1970s, my pathology work brought me two questions: (1) the study of injured tissues under a microscope reveals only the ravages of disease after they have occurred; and (2) what is the boundary between a state of health and the state of absence of health? So began mu shift from the study of disease to that of health.
