Land Mines of the Mind

Do We Also Need Mice of a Different Breed to Clear Land Mines of the Mind?
Mice have been successfully used to detect land mines in Africa so they can be exploded and the region made safe for people there. It was an impressive and amusing sight. How did the mice do that?
Did the land mine mice do so because they had learned to plumb the depths of the mine charges, as Freud claimed to have plumbed the depths his patients’ minds with psychoanalysis? Or as Carl Jung – Freud’s protege once and nemesis in later years – did with his faculty of digging into subjects? Fortunately most psychologists now recognize that Freudian folly.
The reason that the land mine mice did so well because they used heir “sense of things” developed by their biologic faculties, not by any clever Freudian analytical skills.
The image of the mice carried me into my imagined African MotherLand where life was lived by “sense of the elements,” not by convoluted mental schemes.
My point: we humans need to be in our elements, know thwe, and respond to them to once againt escape the tyranny of fear, anger, and absence of curiosity.
